. >> lightning has been a really big deal. that picture we just showed looking south on our tower cam down wisconsin avenue unbelievable and a lot of our viewers said it looked like a mother ship was coming in with that cloud deck and we are still seeing a lot of lightning. we are looking south on wisconsin avenue as mentioned. that lightning is actually in calvert county and also charles county. that's how much lightning there is and we still have a number of warnings. so it's not over yet, folks. let's go to radar. we've got about a dozen counties lit up in yellow mainly east of d.c., but you can see the action now is over in the bay down across southern charles county and st. mary's county. these storms are moving east to southeast at about 35 miles an hour. that is rather slow. what they're doing is not only taking down trees everywhere they hit, the big report tonight, lots of tree damage, but the lightning show has been unbelievable and very dangerous. a lot of this is cloud-to- ground lightning. one thing it has done. it was terribly hot and humid today. that was the fuel thor these

, but it has a big footprint. it's touching those counties in some places. we have more storms back out to the west. this will go until 5:30. frederick, virginia. warren county and those under the severe thunderstorm warning until 5:30. this was a storm i was just showing you on max hd radar. as we zoom in a little bit. this is to the northwest of the beltway in great falls right along the river there. you can see getting a healthy dose and this is drifting toward mcarthur boulevard. we can see the street level view. we take you back out 66 because between winchester and front royal, is this a severe thunderstorm, too. the drift on this storm has been basically to the west and it's not moving very quickly and as we use the radar to look at these, that storm is getting a pretty healthy updraft. the other storm is a very strong updraft as well. all these storms about equally as strong. the possibility of hail and very high, gusty winds approaching 50 to 60 miles per hour. but most importantly, it looks like they are trying to bring some cooling relief. we'll send it back out to shawn and

in minneapolis at 4:00. here comes the big heat dome and now that excessive heat watch issued for yesterday is a warning which means we are expecting triple digit heat and hit heat indices likely ranging from 105 to 110 degrees tomorrow. want you to see the current heat index, ridiculous. it is feeling very close to the triple digits across the region. the heat index, how it feels to your body when you combine temperature and humidity, still feels like 97 in the district. that's what you have to get ready for. overnight we stay incredibly humid and our overnight temperatures really only bottom out at about 78 degrees. so the worst of it now we think rolls into town tomorrow and friday. unfortunately we can't really ditch it saturday. so that excessive heat warning that goes into effect tomorrow afternoon at noon until 8:00 is also in effect for friday. >> this dome is just hanging right over us. >> here come the dome. all we can do is prepare ourselves and make sure we take very good care. put yourself in intensive care tomorrow and check on the elderly and children as well. >> thank you. w
